We make contractions by connecting two or more words together.  
He had ⇨ He'd 
She had ⇨ She'd 
It had ⇨ It'd 
That had ⇨ That'd (That'd  better  be the last time she calls me!) 
That is ⇨ That's  (That's it) 
That will ⇨ That'll ( That'll do) 
That would ⇨ That'd (That'd have been why) 
Negatives
Are not ⇨ Aren't (Aren't you coming?) 
Can not ⇨ can't  (I can't make it) 
Could not ⇨ couldn't  (I couldn't eat it) 
Did not ⇨ Didn't ( I didn't do it) 
Does not ⇨ doesn't (She doesn't work here) 
Do not ⇨ don't (I don't like spiders) 
Had not ⇨ hadn't (He hadn't been told) 
Has not ⇨ Hasn't (She hasn't left) 
is not ⇨ isn't (This isn't  difficult at all!)  
Must not ⇨  mustn't (We mustn't give up!) 
Need not ⇨ needn't (You needn't  come) 
Should not ⇨ Shouldn't (You shouldn't  run) 
was not ⇨wasn't (I wasn't joking) 
were not ⇨ weren't (We weren't sure which way to go)

A lot of contractions to remember,  but most of them are fairly straight word!
